When in Lexington, try to catch a movie at the historic Kentucky Theatre. Built in 1922, this theatre is one of the oldest landmarks in the city of Lexington. Today, it is an important venue to screen films and host concerts. The films shown here are highly exotic; the theatre main focuses on art films, independent or foreign films in Lexington. Every summer, there is a classical film shown in the theatre each Wednesday. This is a way of the theatre to preserve the cinematic heritage of the country. Various fundraisers and special film festivals are also hosted at the Kentucky Theatre. Catch a performance and travel back in time here.

The Kentucky Theater Reviews & Ratings
The Kentucky Theatre is a Lexington mainstay. It often plays "art films" that don't show elsewhere in town, and it seems to curate its selections to include more thought- provoking movies. My favorite part, though, is that it hosts exhibits from area artists, and more than one I've been able to meet a talented exhibitor and acquire a wonderful new piece. All together, the Kentucky Theatre is a cultural icon, and I'm happy that our city seems to value the contribution it offers to the community.
It's a historical landmark. The theaters are beautiful. The tickets and concessions were very affordable. I've gone to different things here. I know my daughter has come to their monthly Rocky Horror before. It's just a neat place.
Best theatre in Lexington for my entire life, by far. Thanks to Fred Mills and staff, this is the place to see movies. Always always our first choice for a movie!
The Kentucky is one of our favorite places to see movies. They almost always have the small house movies playing that aren't showing at the larger theaters and their summer movie series (where they play a variety of "older" films) is great fun! I always recommend seeing a movie at The Kentucky if you can!
Beautiful old time theater. Wonderful experience seeing the midnight premiere of Momo: The Missouri Monster here.
