Welcome to the largest aircraft museum of Kansas, the Mid-America Air Museum. Built in the year 1988, this museum has also made it to the list of the largest museums in the country, ranking 5th. The entire premises include the exhibits, a gift shop and pictorial displays of the important events. The history of the site dates back to the Second World War, when it was a training base. The contribution and idea of this museum must be credited to late Colonel Tom Thomas, Jr., who gave his personal collection of 50 aircrafts to the city, which make up for almost half of the current collection.
