This is the oldest and largest museum in Peru. The museum has more than 100,000 artefacts. They chronologically span the history and the cultural evolution of Peru. On display is a wide range of well preserved pre-Hispanic ceramics, metals, organic materials and textiles. Not only do the exhibits have historic value, but also an artistic value. The museum building was a colonial mansion before. The old architecture and the old exhibits transport you to an era that was beautiful but forgotten. Highlights include:
