Linking the city levels, that is, the Carmo Square and the lower streets, the Santa Justa Lift is a popular transportation service in the cast iron built elevator dating back to 1902. You will be taken to the towering hill from Baixa district and to the Largo do Carmo and Carmo Church which is in ruins now. Santa Justa Lift to its exterior looks majestic with the geometrical patterns and Neo Gothic arches while its interior have contemporary styled polished wooden carriages. The observation deck at the top of the structure will offer you panoramic vista of the Lisbon Historical Centre, the castle, and the far stretched district. You can reach the deck via the spiral staircase at the top of the lift. At night, the view from the platform is stunning with the flickering lights of the city.

Santa Justa Lift Reviews & Ratings

  • Great location, really nice and helpful staff. Terrible showers (sorry but true). Upgrade rooms way better than standard (I thought I'd paid for the upgrade but in fact got less than my friends who booked the cheaper rate - so check what your getting). Breakfast is served a few doors away but that's really no problem and really a good breakfast so I advise to go for it

  • Save the walking to the higher area by using the lift. Panoramic view, at night is really nice, in an area that turns into a lot of people just heading for dinner or perhaps a drink. Street performers are great to watch, Lisbon is absolutely safe, day or night, not like other countries in Europe. You can relax and enjoy without having to worry about your purse or wallet ever.

  • 5 stars for this amazing view of Lisbon. Pro Tip, you can go through the back of this and there are stairs that take you up to a very similar view with a rooftop that leads into the bridge. While that will not get you all the way to the top it will get you a close enough view without having to wait up to an hour and pay $5 Euros. That being said, I think everyone should go all the way to the top at least once to experience these beautiful views!

  • Great view but using the lift is too expensive in my opinion. I recommend walking to the platform by feet and then just pay a little fee to get up some steps. It’s been 1,50€ per person when I went there a few days ago. The view is definitely worth it and it’s breathtaking that the lift is that old and still existing. You also skip to wait in line if you just go up to the platform by feet, using the streets next to it. You can enjoy a good coffee at the Café next to the platform of the lift after enjoying the view, it’s a bit high priced, but still okay.

  • Yes this attraction is definitely a tourist trap. but there is another elevator directly behind it that takes you up for free to the exact same location. Go directly up the stairs and go straight into the store that's right across. You will be up in less than 3 minutes compared to one hour. You will be in the exact same location as you would have been taking the tourist elevator, for 5 Euro less.
