Lisbon’s greatest saint, the St. Anthony, was born right here in this beautiful 18th century Baroque church. He was the patron of brides and mothers-to-be. An older church used to stand on this location before the 1755 Earthquake. The main attraction inside the church is the altar – an image of the saint with Christ in his arms. Right next to the church is a small museum commemorating the saint’s life. During the mid-June St. Anthony’s Day celebrations, weddings known as St. Anthony's Weddings are held here in the church.
