Zemelpolder - Review
A 'polder' is a sort of watermill. The one you see in this location was constructed in 2003, to replace the original from the 18th century, which burned down in 1999. There may have been a water mill in this location as far back as the 17th century. It is a red brick and wood structure. It fell into disuse in the early 20th century and was bought by the municipality in 1943. Various restorations were made over the years until the fire destroyed it; only the upper shaft of the original mill still remains here. In 2008, it was declared a municipal monument. It makes for a rather quaint selfie opportunity.
