Highline Lake State Park, Loma Reviews
Highline state park is a great place to spend the weekend. It has primitive and non primitive camping, call before you go as a lot of times the campground is full. There's a lot of people that kayak and paddle board here. There's a nice swim Beach that's roped off from the Boating area and has lots of big trees for shade when the sun gets a little too much. grassy picnic area is nice and well maintained, a nice little Hillside is all part of the day area. There is a paved boat ramp for your boat. In my opinion you don't want too big/ fast of a boat the Lakes really not that bigand the shape you will just be running the fast track oval. However lost of people use it as a testing ground in early summer to make sure things still float. On the water there's plenty of no wake zones for fishing and three-quarters of the lake is used for skiing and Recreation. During hunting season there are several duck blinds and areas to hunt. There's also several hiking trails and biking trails with access from both Campground areas. Fishing can be tricky mostly trout as it warms up the crappie and bass can be found. This lake is not going to produce trophies everyday but every now and then people get lucky Fish can be caught here. overall it's a pretty good place to go just for the day that is close to home.
The local drought has not treated this park well. A very dusty trail will take hikers and bikers around Highline Lake -- a not too strenuous trip of about 3 miles. Scenery at both the top and the bottom ends of the lake is beautiful. The drive to the lake takes one through a town where many of the streets are unusually numbered, for example 0 (zero) Road, 13 1/2 Road. And it doesn't appear the numbers run sequentially.
The closest thing to a beach in western Colorado. There are places to swim, boat, water ski, and fish. There are also some very nice camp spots. The day areas have nicely maintained restrooms, picnic tables and grills to cook up your catch or those burgers and dogs you bring along. Lots of open space for kids to run around and have fun and even a small playground. I've never had much luck fishing here, but always have a great time none the less.
Well kept and clean. The campground is well shaded and the ground is flat for tents. Enjoyed the water over the hot weekend.
Rangers are off the charts. Especially at 10:00 pm quiet time. Even when you obey the rules they are watching your every move. Nice place but just too much. It's to bad.
