Gili Meno Turtle Sanctuary - Review
For all those interested in indigenous fauna, the Gili Meno Turtle Sanctuary is a must on their list of things to do in Lombok. This is where you can see some interesting varieties of turtles along with being enlightened on how they are bred. Some part of the sanctuary gathers eggs brought to them by the locals and nurture it till the turtle is ready to be left in the sea again. The consistent turtle preservations here have won several accolades.

Gili Meno Turtle Sanctuary, Lombok Reviews
This is a really tiny turtle conservation project in Gili Meno. Credit where credit is due, it is completely run voluntarily by husband and wife. They rely solely on donations from tourists and put their own wages to the upkeep of the sanctuary. The husband collects the eggs or buys them from local people and they bury them in the sand ready for hatching. Once hatched, they are placed in small pools up until 8 months to give them a better charnce of survival in the wild. There were green turtles and loggerhead turtles when we arrived. The lady was so informative and helpful if you ask her questions. We were able to release 2 turtles into the wild for a donation. It was amazing and a highlight of our 6 month trip in Asia. Thank you so much for the amazing work you do for the turtles!
This was such an amazing experience that my daughter, partner and I had. We recently went here in May 2018 and paid 150,000IDR to release a baby (8 months old) turtle into the wild. The husband and wife run this sanctuary completely on volunteered hours and donations. They also during the low season still ensure these turtles are fed and well looked after (on their own wages from other income - not sure how they have the time!). We released 3 turtles into the wild and loved every second of it. Definitely worth the day trip to Gili Meno :)
Very good initiative to collect turtle eggs and let them hatch in a safe environment. Once the turtles are size of a human hand they are put into wildlife again with a far better chance of survival.
Highly recommended. It's a noble cause ,and the volunteers educate and show you about the turtles. It was heart warming and pleasure to donate money for such a nice initiative by the locals.
Yeah it's good, they're just there in the little pools chilling. The owner was cleaning one of the pools when we were there.
