Lonavala Tourism

Nestled in the verdant mountain ranges of the mighty Sahyadri, bestowed with abundant vegetation, beautiful weather and a dreamy ambiance; Lonavala is one of the favorite hill stations in Maharashtra, India. Falling under the jurisdiction of the city of Pune, Lonavla is also home to INS Shivaji- the Indian Navy's Premier Technical Training Institute.

Lonavla dates back to the Yadava dynasty. Having a geographically strategic position, Lonavla was occupied by the Mughals for a long time and was later acquired by the Maratha Empire under the Rule of King Shivaji. The iconic forts dotted around Lonavla are reminisces of the town’s gallant history.

Owing to its cold and pleasant weather, Lonavla was re-discovered by Lord Elphinstone- a governor of Bombay Presidency during the British rule. Along with its twin-town Khandala, Lonavla served as a summer home for British officials and since then has gained popularity as a hill station. Today, it is well-known for family outings and honeymoons.

Visit Lonavla and explore its historic forts, ancient caves, verdant forests and mind-blowing views of the Sahaydri Mountains. Munch on its local delicacy of chikki, splash in its waterfalls and Lonavla will always be a cherished tourist destination in your memory!
