Covent garden at Christmas is breathtaking. The shops are beautifully decorated and the whole area is buzzing with energy. The lights are stunning, even in the cold I wanted to sit outside as it is festive and magical. The street performers were fantastic and always being a smile to even the biggest scrooge. There really is something for everyone at Covent garden and when ever I visit, it is never the same as the last!
Don't take the stairs off the Underground in this station if you're not able to walk up 193 stairs. We took the stairs actually a little by mistake. There are several signs warning you for those stairs, and even when you're walking up you can find some signs telling you how fast you've come
While not perfect, nor fully accessible, this station does a decent job of taking people to and from Covent Garden area. From the Piccadilly line platforms there are 20 steps up to the bottom landing for the lifts. There are four lifts which hold around 30 people each. Travel time is about 30 seconds. Unfortunately the spiral staircase is before the lifts and too many people use them. It is over 130 steps up and only truly fit people should attempt it. Even when busy the lifts are fastest. The station is under 100 metres from the piazza. The ticket hall is step free. It has a separate way in and out. There are several ticket machines near the way in, and staff to assist. One thing to be aware of, is that on weekends, at certain times the station is exit only. Holborn and Leicester Square stations are short walks away and will provide a more comfortable experience when it's busy.
Good place to shop for couples. Beautiful.
Lovely exterior of this station. Shame about the lifts being so slow- not good in peak hour. A shame that women with their prams decide to block the lift, a few times there was plenty of room for me to get on but the women had other ideas. Sometimes have to take the 200 step stairs to get up/down when its really busy.
