Golden Union, London Reviews - Write a Review
Fish was great! Traveled here for my honeymoon and my wife and I had to try out fish and chips. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area and looking for a quick meal. The staff promptly took our order and we had our food in less than 5 minutes. One tip for travelers: if you aren't starving and have a partner that's up for it, you could split the large order for £2 more and get nearly double the fish and slightly more fries than a small! I would definitely eat here again on another vacation.
We came here because it's said to have great fish and it does! Great food, great chips and great mushy peas. Had to add a lot of salt though as I think they forgot to Great if you like BIG portions. I was full after not even have of the Small portion. And the staff seems a bit uninterested, but they do their job! Good fast food place And all fish is ethically fished and prepared and local so that is a big plus
I've been here a few times and the reason I come back is for the food. It's excellent. The service however although not terrible, is somewhat lazy. I often have to ask someone to take my order even though there's 5 or 6 people free. My latest visit, the lady took my empty plate, I said thank you, and she bought me my bill. I didn't ask for it, and I wanted to order an ice cream. They clearly thought I was finished so I got my ice cream elsewhere. I also asked them to take off my 'optional service charge' as I wanted to pay what I thought it was worth. I did leave a tip, just not 12.5%. The staff are polite and the food is great, I just feel that the customer is not their first priority. If they were even a little attentive I'd go there more and recommend them to my friends.
Outrageous fish and chips at very reasonable prices. No draft beer, which was a surprise. Take away looked fast and efficient. Do not miss the mushy peas either. Only downside was the tiny cups of tartar sauce, I could have used another 3 or 4 with my enormous slab of cod. It was great, loaded with dill. More more more please.
If I have to have the best fish and chips available in London, this is where I go. There's only one place does it better, and it's WAY FAR AWAY in Brighton... Golden Union isn't the cheapest, but it's the best. Make sure to get some of the homemade tartar sauce.
