We were welcomed with a smile by a receptionist with 2 badges, one with her name "Auguste", one with "In training". Well done Auguste! You were very good at making us feel welcome and efficient at processing our registration. Our room was compact but had everything we needed and was well laid out. When visiting London, we arrive by train at Waterloo. We loved the fact that 4 bus routes can take us directly from Waterloo Station to Russell Square within a few yards from the hotel.
The Mercure London Bloomsbury is a very pleasant place to stay for a few days. Service was excellent throughout, at reception, the bar and restaurant and at breakfast. The buffet breakfast itself was very well arranged with a wide range of items. My bedroom and bathroom were modern and well appointed. The room air conditioning was effective and easy to manage.
An excellent experience. I recently stayed for several days. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very good with everything you might want or need. And Marco's, the restaurant downstairs served a very tasty carbonara. The position was great, just up from the theatre district so not too noisy or crowded bit close enough to walk to the theatre. And round the corner from the British Museum.
My experience at the Mercure Bloomsbury was very good, but after a rather rough start. The room I was first assigned was very small, and faced out to the main street which made it extremely noisy at all times of day/night from traffic and emergency vehicle sirens. Worse than that, the air conditioning didn't work, and the arrangement of the room was such that any movement in the room made lights come on in the bathroom. This included from the bed. I asked to be moved. The hotel did accommodate me, but as an "upgrade" for which I had to pay. It's true that they gave me a 25% discount for the "inconveniences" of the first room, but I kept thinking that they really should have moved me without cost, or given me a bigger discount. In any case, the new room faced to a small side street, was quiet and was better arranged. It also included the little refrigerator I had asked for when booking the hotel months earlier. So, in the end, it was fine. The location was near the subway, and also in walking distance from the Institute at the University of London where I was working. The staff were efficient and nice. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast, which was included, was excellent.
Great location for central London, room 711 was nice and clean but on the small side. Breakfast was very good. Very enjoyable 2 night stay. Drinks in the hotel bar were very expensive and sadly due the price only had 1 round of drinks.
