We were in the private dining room on the top floor, a fantastic location for a festive gathering - intimate, relaxed, with attentive staff. I had an Autumn Leaf salad that initially looked underwhelming but revealed some hidden charms such as caramelised walnuts and some tender smoked beef. The Essex deer complemented by interesting vegetables including perfectly cooked beetroot was delightful. But my highlight was the dessert; I've never enjoyed apples as much as these that were poached in wine and accompanied by other sweet delicacies that I couldn't properly identify but thoroughly enjoyed. I wasn't drinking but am assured by my fellow guests that the wine waiter knew his grapes and suggested something well matched.
Amazing, knowledgeable staff and brilliant wine pairings. Food was interesting, but nothing I'll salivate over for months or years. Tasting menu + wine was £300 for 2.
Visited for the vegan tasting menu. It was seven courses I believe and overall was an enjoyable experience. We liked nearly all of the dishes and there were some unique flavours and interesting textures. The service was friendly and the wine that my sister tried was reasonable value. The celeriac and coconut curry dishes were our favourites.
Arrived here for the vegan tasting menu full of excitement after reading many excellent reviews. Our experience certainly wasn't awful, just not particularly memorable with the majority of the dishes being "fine" and the first dish being incredibly salty (perhaps to get the palate going?). The sommeliers certainly know what they are doing with the pairings I cannot deny, however being asked to guess the grape after every course grew old fast. The service is lovely and the staff very attentive and friendly but I just left feeling a bit cheated after spending almost £400 including tip for two people.
Don’t get me wrong the food is good and the service is fantastic (especially the sommelier). It’s just that for this price you expect something exceptional and it wasn’t, in my opinion.
