  • I was looking forward to a traditional dining experience in this well appointed wood-panelled dining hall. Sadly, the service was hit-and-miss - friendly, but neither particularly reliable nor attentive - and I was a little disappointed by the food. The roast beef, one of the signature dishes here, was tough despite being rare, and the portion needlessly large - it is not often that I leave half my plate untouched. They said they could arrange a mixed salad as a starter for a child (off the children's menu) ..but were billed for a Caesar salad from the main courses of the main menu. It was August and, perhaps, some staff were on holiday? The main thing was that my guests seemed to be happy. Nonetheless, the new owners will need to make improvements.

  • Excellent from start to finish! Sunday roast is divine. Great ambience with professional and very friendly staff. You will not be disappointed.

  • Service and atmosphere are great.skip the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Meat is sliced deli thin and pudding is dry and chewy. Beef tartar and sticky toffee pudding are excellent.

  • The recently refurbed Simpsons doesn’t disappoint. The beef and Lampe cavern are spectacular. Chilled live piano sets the tone along with a spectacular lofty room and on point service.

  • This was very hit and miss. Although we enjoyed the overall experience the front of house service was appallingly bad and the wait staff, friendly as they were, failed to refill water and wine glasses. The fillet steak was sublime, however the renowed roast beef from the trolley was cold, tough and lacking in flavour. Overall, very poor value for money and totally relying on past reputation.
