  • Grade I Listed, Baroque church attributed to Wren. Historically associated in fact and fable with the regulatory pealing of bells serving as timekeeper to working London. The rebuilt interior is not especially memorable with a cafe in the ancient crypt and an exterior surrounded by inconsequential buildings that hardly enhance the precinct. Associations with Australia commemorated here the reason being; “....I do not know says the great bell of Bow.”

  • Costermongers or Pearly Kings harvest festival thanksgiving service is a fantastic time to be here, to offer thanksgiving for the year past and year ahead, a gorgeous church inside. Festivities start off on the day at Guildhall and then a parade of the Pearly kings and Morris dancers and others at 3pm head to the church service at St Mary le Bow. Was good to attend the service and handout provided and take photos of the interior afterwards. The bells rang for a good half hour after the service and are so lovely to listen to

  • Just beautiful, the place all cockneys feel at home. Worth a butchers hook...

  • The Bells that turned Dick Whittington around and makes you a Cockney. Also featured in the nursery rhyme “Oranges and Lemons” “When will you Pay me? say the Bells of Old Bailey; When I grow Rich say the Bells of Shoreditch; Pray when will that be? say the Bells of Stepney; I do not know say the GREAT BELL OF BOW.”

  • Where the origins of the cockney originated... One had to be born within the hearing of this church bells to be considered a cockney...
