This museum almost single handed drive’s Port Louis’s tourism. Basically and art and history museum, it tells the story of the great trading conapnies of the 17th and 18th centuries and their quest to bring spices, textiles, porcelain, coffee, tea to France from Asia, Africa and America. It explores the lives of the most famous of these traders and explorers. The museum’s exhibits are beautifully lit. A large part of the museum is of course, dedicated to the East India Company.

Musee De La Compagnie Des Indes, Lorient Reviews - Write a Review

  • Good museum. Shows even a bit of the historic slave trade done in Lorient. Could be clearer as in mentioning the specific local people who profited and trace where the wealth made with the slave trade is visible in the region today.

  • Fascinating history. Spent almost an hour in here. Use the audio guide to add extra detail.

  • Brilliant location on the beach....parking available. The east company museum is very informative with great models and artifacts...wonderful little gift shop!

  • Ludique et didactique. Deux heures de rêve. Parfait.
