Battleship Uss Iowa Bb-61, Los Angeles Reviews
I am a Vietnam Navy veteran. I was on a ship similar to the Iowa. And when I told one of the people taking tickets that I was on one in Vietnam. He took me and my girlfriend to the front of a very long line and let us go ahead and didn't charge us at all. I can say that made me feel a little special and thankful if somebody is truly showing their appreciation. The tour was very interesting I had my girlfriend with me and she was also in the Navy. So is definitely worth going and seeing. Very educational
I worked The Salvation Army booth for Fleet Week and I immediately had fun as a regular attendee. I got sucked into the festivities and had a blast. I'm definitely going back in my free time and will enjoy more of everything the Battleship USS Iowa has to offer and the surrounding popular visits and museums. Either you're by yourself or you're with friends and family, you're good.
Wonderful experience to walk around on a piece of history. Parking was easy and not too expensive. For the self guided tour, you can download the app. Good luck with trying to connect with the free WiFi, though. Disappointed that the Full steam ahead tour is only on weekends. We appreciated that some of the volunteer docents "chatted up" various parts of the tour. Do stay for the full viewing of the various films; they are done well and contain a lot of information. The museum and gift shop are amazing. If you have mobility issues, this probably won't be a tour for you...to access different levels, you need to navigate steep ladders and step up and over hatchways.
The tour of the ship was wonderful. However, we were horribly misled about the Harbor tour. We were told it was an easy walk to get to the tour. It wasn't. Nobody seemed to know exactly where the Doc was, but it was over a mile away. So we ended up paying for parking at the Iowa, walking over a mile to get to the dock which had free parking. Then, of course, having to walk back. Someone needs to at least provide the information.
This was our first time to tour a battleship and I must say, it was amazing! The stories this battleship holds and the things our service men and women sacrifice makes you appreciate being an American. Highly recommend this and any other tours like this!
