Highest tower overlooking the city of Lucca, the construction of the structure dates back to 14th century. The tower is 164 tall and survives unlikely to the other 130 towers of Lucca. Built as a part of a home for a rich family for purpose of protection and a symbol of power and wealth, this tower houses a clock which runs on an old mechanism and is still wound by hands. It’s well worth being here when the bells chime to see the wheels and gears turn. They move rapidly and noisily to regulate the number of times the bells are struck.

You can climb the tower and reach the top with the help of its 207 well-maintained stairs built in wood. Admire the alluring sight of Lucca from the top and click pictures to preserve memories!

  • The staircase is narrow and steep, so climbing may be difficult for the elderly.
  • Don’t stand near the tower bells when they strike on the hour since the noise is very loud.

  • Definitely worth visiting for great views of Lucca from above. Easy climb even for people with high anxiety or claustrophobia. Stairs looked renovated, you can climb without fear. Being on top watch out for the bell ringing. On the way up you can see the old clock mechanism. Buying combined ticket for Torre Guinigi is a good bargain.

  • Great view from top. It's a steep climb to get up there but it's worth it. Breathtaking view all around the city. It's possible to buy tickets for both towers and the botanic gardens. Kids under 14 don't pay. A must visit.

  • A tower in the city of Lucca. Not as wide as Torre Guinigi, it has very narrow stairs and is taller that Torre Guinigi. It offers a great view of Torre Guinigi and the city of Lucca. A great spot for pictures.

  • The Torre delle Ore or Torre delle Orologio is a clock-tower or turret clock located on Via Fillungo in central Lucca. Wonderful panorama view to all Lucca Be carefully on the top of the tower when bells suddenly are starting ringing every 15 minutes! Visit tower costs EUR 4 or EUR 6 in combination with Torre Guinigi (June 2018).

  • I recommend getting the combined ticket for both towers. The stairs are quite narrow, but since we didn't meet anyone on our way up or down there were no problems. The picture I added is the view to the other tower.
