Monte Bre - Review
For the best view of Lugano, hop on to the funicular which will take you to the top of Mount Bre and provide you with some picture-perfect sights of the city, Lake Lugano and beyond. Once you get to the top, there are a few hiking trails that depart from here; you’ll have to pre-book, of course! If you’re not a hiker, there’s another interesting walking trail called the “Art Trail”, which will take you through the village of Bre. It’s a romantic little village that has a walking path embellished with statues.
Before you begin your descend however, grab a bite at one of the restaurants on top and dig in (with a view)…

Monte Bre, Lugano Reviews
CHF12.5 with half fare travel card for funicular. Now that I’ve been to both Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore, I can confirm San Salvatore is better organized, its funicular better timed and streamlined, its observation decks more accessible. On top of Monte Brè, a good view point is a terrace next to the church but blocked, wasted, and marked as private (see pic below). Another good view point is in a restaurant, where you may feel awkward taking pics beside other people’s tables.
What a view! We were driving all the way up with our own car as we read that they were some parking spaces, which is true. We also read that it was a scary ride to go there--it is not. Yes, the street is narrow and the curves are not the easiest ones but it is all manageable. On top there is a restaurant which was closed when we were there in winter. Nevertheless, the view was worth the trip.
It's a very pretty view, but if the weather is foggy you can't see anything and I don't think its the easiest drive up. Slightly over-rated for just a lookout in my opinion.
A relatively easy hike up, about 2km of stairs with a mid-way view point. A grassy area at the top where we stopped to have a picnic and take in the view before walking down through the woods. Restaurant at the top and there is a car park at the bottom with toilet facilities.
Nice view of the lugano city and the lake once u reach up by the funicular
