It is centred on the original urban community of Lynn Lake, located at 56°51′06″N 101°02′48″W / 56.85167°N 101.04667°W. The town was named after Lynn Smith, chief engineer of Sherritt Gordon Mines Ltd. There are many outfitters in the Lynn Lake area.
