The Festival of Light (Fete des Lumieres) – Held at the end of the first week of December. A four day event that once (from 1852) venerated the Golden Virgin Mary, but is now an international festival that lights up the city in Technicolor. 4 million visitors descend on Lyon around this time.
Nuits de Fourviere – A June – August music festival held at the now restored ancient Roman theatrs. The concerts include pop, jazz, and classical, and they’ll even throw in dancing, theatre and cinema.
Biennels: Held from September to January. On off years it’s a contemporary art fest. On even years it’s a dance fest.
