Nice, big square - biggest open square in Europe. Third largest square in the France, but the biggest pedestrian one. Part of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Three major shopping streets lead off from here and it’s also the 0 mile marker of the city – in essence, it’s the centre of Lyon. Since the Roman times, it’s changed names and owners more times than a child gets a cold. Hell, even Napoleon owned it for a while. There’s an equestrian statue of Louis XIV flanked by figures representing the Rhone and the Saone in the centre of the square. It’s Lyons favorite demonstration and protest spot. Sometimes there are concerts or a book fair. It’s really snazzy in winter though – a 60-metre high Ferris wheel and an ice rink are installed and for that while, this is the city’s favorite place. Place Bellecour Lyon shopping avenues are well known all over. Watch people here if you like but don’t be creepy about it. There’s lots of places to chow.

Every season this place if full of energy. Lyon made the most beautiful activities to surprise the visitors and the residents. Awesome place!
What a beautiful square, surrounded by beautiful buildings! There is great transport from here to other parts of the city. There is a ferris wheel. Great views up to the fouviére. And access to the shops and main streets of Lyon!
Great open space. City could do more with it.
Like the name suggests it is indeed a "nice place" with a rather interesting statue of a French king in the style of a Roman legionnaire. Apparently the statue took decades and large quantities of money to eventually get to where it is and after all of the effort, the sculptor forgot the stirrups.
Very beautiful but people were setting off firecrackers here
