  • This pretty town is a natural stopping point for boats going up and down the river. Population is 5,500 so it has a small village charm, but because of it's historical importance it has a huge Basilica, town hall, and a museum in the castle. The views from the castle are spectacular, looking across the entire North side of the countryside. The museum is of renaissance and modern art and sculptures, some of which are in the gardens. The town also has a number of small galleries, and a hidden theatre which you need to look in to believe. There are plenty of places to sit and rest, as well as a long river front with restaurants serving you either side of the bridge.

  • Nice river that I cycled along from the Doubs to the Rhone. The towpath is far from ideal for cycling along and needs to be tarmacked. The river itself is really nice with the Beaujolais hills alongside. We spent a very pleasant few days cycling along it, apart from as I did the surface we rode on. Eventually we had to give up and take to the road at Montmerle-sur-Soâne.

  • Nice place to a picnic or even just a walk

  • Wonderful river cruising holiday

  • We had a lovely walk along the river banks near to Cormoranche-sur-Saone. It was quiet, and wooded. There are some well signed paths taking you along the bank and then back to the village and camp site. There were Grey Herons, Buzzards, Storks and water fowl to be seen. Spotted a dragonfly and damzel fly
