Guia Fortress - Review

The GuiaFortess is another relic of the Portuguese rule in Macau. The typical architecture of the fort makes it very important to the heritage of Macau.

It had become an important strategic location in this area over the years. There is also a light house which is a part of the complex that people love to see.

The simplicity, practicality and beauty of the place are most definitely worth seeing. There is a chapel inside the fortress too. There are also some interesting paintings inside this chapel. The Paintings are an amazing example of the amalgamation of the Portuguese and the Chinese cultures in Macau. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Macau Itinerary 3 Days.

Guia Fortress, Macau Reviews

  • This is a really sweet place to visit! Lots of history took place within the walls of this fort. I do highly recommend taking a cab up the mountain to the fortress, especially if you have no idea how to walk there. Once up there, you'll find fantastic views of Macau (below are three pictures from atop the fort) while breathing in clean, fresh air. Entrance is free to the public

  • The walk to the Lighthouse is really nice. If you want an even fresher air to breath in Macao, then hiking up to this place is the best option. Uphill is also a good spot to get a panoramic view of the city —and it's all free. The only downside to this place is that there's no proper English direction to some of the locations. Note: Don't forget to bring water.

  • Remember to wear a comfy shoes the hills were too tiring a really long walk going up there, bring some snacks and drinks to refresh. I have a fear of heights but I have a great day here. This is the highest point of Macau :-) there's a huge park over there where you can jog on.

  • Really fantastic view of the city, nice old lighthouse and surrounding buildings, not very busy and set atop of a large hill with a nice park to explore. There's a small museum but not much information there. Mostly I enjoyed taking in the view.

  • Guia Lighthouse gives a very exotic mood as well as great views. The chapel next to the lighthouse is so small that there cannot be Mass held inside, and actually it seems to be for exhibition only. The lighthouse is too small to stay for hours and understandably not allowed to get in.
