Machias Tourism

Machias is a city in Washington County, Maine, serving as the county seat. With a total population of around 2,000 (as of the 2020 census), the area is well-known for being the site of the first naval battle of the American Revolution. The English first discovered the place in 1633; however, it was not until 1817 that it again came under US sovereignty. According to the US Central Bureau, the town is spread across 14.80 square miles and experiences hot summers and cold winters. The place is home to the famous University of Maine at Machias and the Machias Valley Airport, a small public airport owned by the town. Additionally, regarding transportation, Machias is crossed by multiple US Routes, and the city features numerous schools, including elementary and high schools.
