Bylakuppe or Bailkuppe is situated around 40 kilometres from Coorg. The second largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet and the largest one in south India, the area houses Sera, the largest educational monastic institution. There are nearly 7,000 monks and nuns at the institution. Along with it, you will also find Tashilunpo monastery and Namdroling monastery. The 40 feet tall golden Buddha statues are a major attraction of Bylakuppe. Throughout the neighbourhood, you will find shops dedicated to carpets, handicrafts, incense and a lot more. A good spot for souvenir shopping.
