  • I would give 6 Stars easily. One of the coolest free zoos I've visited (Lincoln Park Zoo still better, but different). It reminded me of the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, WA (pay zoo, much larger, but not as well set-up). Really neat selection of animals: lions, grizzly bears, orangutans, lemurs, alligators, lizards, etc! My teenage boys really enjoyed themselves. Do not pay attention to the low reviews. Many are from 'animal rights' malcontents. It was somewhat quiet inside. Very clean! Parking seemed adequate - found a place in the small lot. Bathrooms large. Would definitely return to Madison just to visit!

  • This is a free zoo with free parking. Please don't expect perfection, but we have a great time. There is many activities for kids of all ages. Decent prices for a zoo. Beautiful picnic area and playground right outside. Pack a lunch and snacks and enjoy the beautiful day here.

  • i can't believe it's free. What a wonderful thing for family outing it doesn't cost an arm and a leg has quite a few families there. My family enjoyed it immensely. Course we left money to like to help take care of the animals and what beautiful animals they had. It was well well maintained. It was a beautiful zoo and well took care of.

  • We love this zoo. We visit 10 or so times a year. Its clean, the animals are well taken care of, the staff friendly, and its FREE. People who live in Madison definitely dont appreciate how good they have it... But go to most other cities and pay $50-60-70 for a family of 4 to spend a day at the zoo and you will understand.

  • A surprisingly big zoo right in the heart of Madison! Very well attended the day we went (apparently a lot of school field trips there!) even though it was overcast. Many varieties of animals both outdoors and indoors. Nice signage for each animal. They also sold food and had a gift shop. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting Madison! More than a decade has passed since I last visited the zoo. There are new buildings, animals, and exhibits. We had a good time. Saw the polar bear, lions, penguins, giraffes, monkeys, birds, and tiger up close. We also visited the ape. Good way to spend the day with children or personal observation.

  • I would like to offer employees and their children to go on a Sat afternoon. I would also like to purchase tickets for an ice cream bar and cotton candy? Could you please give me a list of prices to purchase for snacks? Thank you

    • As you are planning a visit for a large group, I think you may get discounted rates. So, I would suggest calling the zoo directly on  1 608-266-4732 for detailed information.
