Estatua Ecuestre De Carlos I I I - Review
Located in Puerta del Sol, the equestrian statue of Charles III pays tribute to ‘the most popular Mayor’ of Madrid even though he did not hold the position officially.
The original model was made by sculptor Juan Pascual de Mena for other personalities. Rodriguez Banuelos Stride took the model and added Charles III’s face and reproduced it in bronze in 1914.
Today, the beautiful bronze statue stands proudly on a limestone pedestal with the engraved story of the history of Carlos III.

Estatua Ecuestre De Carlos I I I , Madrid Reviews
When visiting Puerto del Sol, you will find three monuments worth seeing, including the Equestrian statue of Carlos III, situated in the centre of the square and facing south. This bronze statue is based upon a similar but smaller original found at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and shows Carlos III, in stately attire, with a scroll in his right hand. He appears to be monitoring activity in the distance. The figure stands upon a pedestal, fronted by an inscribed Shield of Carlos III. This is a quality tribute to Carlos III and quick find at Puerta Del Sol for those who enjoy viewing monuments during your travels. Additional finds here include the classical style figure of Mariblanca on the western end of Puerta Del Sol as well as the enjoyable and important El Oso y El Madroño (the bear and the strawberry tree) figure at the opposite end of the square.
