This wondrous art gallery is many things but above all it is Goyá’s last resting place. The painter is buried at the altar – without his head. It’s a strange story, and you should get a local to tell it to you. The frescoes on the ceilings too are painted by Goya, as is the famous painting of St. Anthony. Madrid seamstresses come to pray here every 13th June. Although pretty enough from the inside, the attractions’ true treasure is Goya himself.
