Constructed around the mid 17th century, the Iglesia de San Andres stands on the grounds of an early church believed to date back to the 12th century!
Legend goes that San Isidro was buried in the cemetery at the foot of the early church of San Andrés until 1212. King Alfonso VIII , who saw the body recognized him as the shepherd who had guided him in the battle of Navas de Tolosa.
The present day church was restored after the 1936 fire and restored to combine with the Capilla del Obispo. Today the church is one of the most exquisitely embellished churches with its mail alter being an iconic attraction in the city.
