The Panteon de Hombres Ilustres is located in Nuestra Senora de Atocha Basilica and contains tombs of some of the most illustrious people of Madrid including Ríos Rosas, Canovas del Castillo and Canalejas.

The place is a national heritage site and pays homage to the most influential people in a unique way. The sculptures on the tombs are the highlight of the place and represent the city’s love of art merged with its respect for history!

  • Very beautiful sculptures. Can be visited in 20 minutes, worth a stop if you're in the area or before catching a train at Atocha station.

  • Lugar muy desconocido hasta por los propios madrileños a pesar de su proximidad a la estación de Atocha. Es un edificio de estilo neobizantino en el que se encuentran enterrados personajes ilustres del finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX como Sagasta, Canalejas, Eduardo Dato, Ríos Rosas, Cánovas del Castillo... Magníficos conjuntos escultóricos funerarios con elaboradas alegorías realizadas por escultores como Mariano Benlliure. Remanso de paz y armonía. Entrada gratuita.
