St. Michael's Basilica - Review

The Basilica de San Miguel was the resting place of Italian composer Luigi Boccherini until 1927. Completed around the mid 18th century, the Basilica is loved for its façade and the statues by Roberto Michel and Nicolas Caresana that represent charity, faith, hope, and fortitude.

Highlights include:

  • Cupola decorated with frescos (1745) depicting the apotheosis of Santos Justo y Pastor, made by Bartolome Rusca.

The grandeur of the place cannot be described but if you love art and architecture, there is no better example of 18th century art in the city like the interiors of the basilica.

  • Very beautiful, peaceful basilica. Lovely frescoes and grand ornate chapels.

  • One of the smaller Basilicas in the area, but it's so, so beautiful. The baroque architecture and beautiful old paintings left me speechless. It's a beautiful stop if you're in the area to just sit for a minute and take in the beautiful art on the walls and ornate decor.

  • Architecture that will amazing. Go right now! The chapel's ceiling is to die for!

  • Small but beautiful interior

  • Beautiful and charming church around the beautiful and lively tapas zone of la latina not far from the plaza mayor. You must go inside to fully appreciate the beautiful masterfull decorations of this gorgeous church
