Yet another of Madurai’s famous temples, KoodalAzhagar Temple is dedicated to Vishnu (the Protector) and is one of his 108 abodes.
The temple greets you at its gate with a colorful and intricate display of Gods and Goddesses and a pyramidal shape which is seen in most of the temples in the region.
The temple is visited by locals for offering their respects to Vishnu while tourists will love the place for its beautiful pillars, rock-cut designs and a burst of color during festivals.

Are you interested in temple art and sculpture? then you should visit the Koodal Azhagar temple very close to Meenakshi temple and Madurai bus station. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture. The temple is glorified in Divyaprabandha. There is a huge idol of Lord Vishnu with the structural beuty. Well maintained and a fairly big temple, lovely calm and peaceful.

This is 90th Divya Desam. This thiruthalam is related to all four yugas. Koodal Azhagar was worshiped by "brahamas son" in "Kridha yuga", "Pruthu Maharaja" in "Thretha yuga" , "Ambareeshan" in "Dhawabara yuga" and the King "Prooruva" in "Kaliyuga".
