Gereja Ayam - Review
Don’t miss out on this interesting massive chapel in the middle of the Indonesian forest. The most unique part of this place is its building shape which is shaped like a chicken, popularly known as chicken church now. This building is a pious tribute by Daniel Alamsjah who created possibly the most bird-like looking building in the world, complete with giant, squawking head, and ornate decorative tail feathers. Local artists have covered the inner walls with vibrant murals showing local mythology and history and there’s a small cafe nestled within the chicken’s rear that sells traditional, tasty treats. You can even climb up to the top of the bird’s head for amazing 360-degree views. A different experience for sure!

Gereja Ayam, Magelang Reviews
I was expecting a quiet place in the mountains, but by the time i got there, it's already converted into a tourist spot. So expect to share that beautiful sunrise moment with a couple of other strangers. It's still pretty cool, though... You won't get lost, there's clean bathrooms, there's even restaurant if you got hungry from all the climbing. Btw the climbing stairs almost killed me, you might want to consider renting a jeep to carry you up.
I love how people willing to renovate & rebuild this place. But what makes me disappointed is the building itself lose its soul. It was meant to be a pray house for every religions & beliefs, now it just felt like another tourist spot. Nothing is wrong with tourist spot, but i just wish they kept it as it is. Old building is good. Well kept & clean old building is amazing. Modernized old building with too many things added is disappointing. Anyway, if you're not that fit, there's a jeep that can take you to this place for a fee. I forgot to ask how much is it as i convinced myself that i can climb those stairs. I made it, with several stops to catch my breath 😅
The ticket is cheap and from the entrance to the church you have to take the stairs around 200m or if you're too tired you can rent a jeep for Rp. 7000/person. You will get free singkong with the ticket you bought, and have breakfast there (there are also people selling breakfast & good coffee). Breakfast with a view is very recommended here!
Don't get wrong, this place not only a place because used to be filmed in AADC2. For interfaith, get the ambience from this peaceful and unique place. Hope is the key to get the feeling of universe. So, don't waste time for only get good selfie photo from this place. Just sit for a while to feel the nuance or enjoy coffee at the upstair building.
As soon as you get here, your mind blown. Its actually a worship place with every kind religion. They give you free fried cassava for each ticket. You can reach here via their entrance (before the pathuk setumbu) or via pathuk setumbu entrance which i really don't recommend to! (The pathway was really steep as it was no proper footpath, no guard in the forest, very dangerous.)
