The Maritime Museum and the Lighthouse museum are located on the same campus and have a shared ticket for visitors. Both the museums show detailed maritime history of the city including a collection of models of ancient ships and the evolution of sailing from ancient times to the current modern ships used commercially. Information of the first ships to reach Mahabalipuram is the highlight of the place and you can also learn about the routes that the ships took to promote trade and study navigation around the world. The exhibit of Silk Route covers one of the most important trade history and with detailed maps, is an interesting addition to the museum.  

However, the best part about the museum are the audio-visuals used to make these exhibits interesting. You can also find a Submarine Simulator here that gives you an underwater experience! Other highlights of the place include old boats including defence vessel, fishing boats, anchors and models of airplane.
