To mark the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the Capuchin Franciscan order, the Igreja (church) of Sao Sebastiao was completely renovated and is a fine example of some beautiful interior renovation. It’s this renovation that makes the Igreja a popular attraction- the Igreja is neither the biggest nor the oldest church of Manaus, but it sure is the most stunning one.

One of the things you might notice about the exterior of the church is that it has only one tower. The corresponding was never built due to lack of funds and as a gesture towards the less fortunate. The white Italian marble with the stained glass windows and the opulent altar, the church is indeed a thing of beauty. The floor is lined with black and white granite after the colour of the two rivers that flow in-tandem for about 6 kilometers.
