Midyat is a historical town in the Mardin province of Turkey. It was once the site of the Hurrian town of South West Turkey. The Syriac name for this place is Tur Abdin. The history of the Hurrians dates back to the 3rd millennium or the 9th century BC. It is referred to as Mitiate in the old inscriptions related to Mardin Province.
