Margaret Island - Review

Margaret Island is a great place to spend an entire day. The island was an important place in the middle ages when it was a religious hub. Even today you can see some of the medieval ruins in this area. In those days, the Margaret Island was only accessible by water but now you can reach it through Margaret Bridge.

This island in the river Danube has become a popular recreational centre. There are beautiful walkways and areas to just hang out here. The Centennial monument which was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the joining together of Buda and Pest is the first thing you will probably see here. You can also see the beautiful Margarets island fountain or several statues around the place. The whole area is very picturesque. Besides, there is also a zoo and a Japanese Garden making this place a great place for a picnic. It will be a great spot for a family or a large group to explore.

People say in Budapest the statues and memorial speaks. And the fact is quite true when you come across just brilliantly concept memorial named Centennial Memorial. This memorial was built to celebrate 100 years of union of Buda and Pest. Its extra-ordinary design will definitely stop you and influence you to admire its beauty.

  • Very beautiful place to walk, rent a bike or just stay and relax on grass. There is a mini zoo with free entrance on the island. Very easy to get there, there is a bus that stops on the island and also is very central, you can walk from centre here under 30 minutes. There are also places to eat and drink, do some exercises and an aqua park. Highly recommend while visiting Budapest.

  • If you are visiting Margaret Island, do yourself a favor and rent a bike! Lovely cycles around the island to get picturesque views of both side of Budapest across the Danube. Even better prepare in advance and bring a picnic basket and some wine to chill

  • Oh I can't explain in words. Such a wonderful place to simply go, sit on the ground, see the fountain and local people singing and dancing and above all have your picnic. There is a direct public bus which goes there. Highly recommended!

  • Really nice park to walk around. Some information about the trees in signs which are also in English. The fountain show is quite entertaining! The Japanese garden was particularly beautiful.

  • Margaret island reminds me of central part in New York City. While there, I became so immersed with nature that you truly forget you’re in the city. An excellent place for a picnic and to glamour at the fountain shows.
