Margaret Island is a great place to spend an entire day. The island was an important place in the middle ages when it was a religious hub. Even today you can see some of the medieval ruins in this area. In those days, the Margaret Island was only accessible by water but now you can reach it through Margaret Bridge.

This island in the river Danube has become a popular recreational centre. There are beautiful walkways and areas to just hang out here. The Centennial monument which was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the joining together of Buda and Pest is the first thing you will probably see here. You can also see the beautiful Margarets island fountain or several statues around the place. The whole area is very picturesque. Besides, there is also a zoo and a Japanese Garden making this place a great place for a picnic. It will be a great spot for a family or a large group to explore.

  • An other must-see place Budapest Center. The island is just nearby the houses of Parliament and the Margarita bridge. Classic touristic attraction like so many others in the city. Especially during the night as a long walk is magnificent. It can be combined with nearby attraction visits as the fishermam's bastion. Generally, must spend time to visit..

  • This is really is an island of trees and meadows in the middle of a city encompassed by the Danube River. There's lots to do from leasurly walks to watching the musical fountain, visiting the mini zoo or the Japanese Garden with pond. There are fun eateries and a great public pool too.

  • Lovely island, great for runners. However, do not eat on this island. I got food poisoning eating at one of the cafes here, just before a foodie tour that i had booked, which i lost the money from as i couldnt attend. I also also told by a guide today never to eat on this island.

  • If you are visiting Margaret Island, do yourself a favor and rent a bike! Lovely cycles around the island to get picturesque views of both side of Budapest across the Danube. Even better prepare in advance and bring a picnic basket and some wine to chill

  • Oh I can't explain in words. Such a wonderful place to simply go, sit on the ground, see the fountain and local people singing and dancing and above all have your picnic. There is a direct public bus which goes there. Highly recommended!
