The Quercia Vallonea (Quercia Dei Cento Cavalieri) in Marina Serra in Italy is a historical landmark that you must include in your itinerary if you are in the area. A ‘living monument’, the Quercia Vallonea or the Vallonea Oak is more than 800 years old and is associated with a legend which states that some hundred cavalrymen took shelter under its massive foliage. You can reach the Quercia Vallonea by walking and take a look at the giant specimen of flora that has survived time and spread its branches. The Quercia Vallonea is now surrounded by an iron fence to prevent desecration so you can’t get too close to it.
