Marken is known for its fishing history, so for history enthusiasts, it will be interesting to learn about how the fisherfolks used to live in the past. At the harbour, there is a small house that has been designed after the historic houses from the early days of Marken. The furniture and decor are all from that time period, and it has been furnished to resemble the house of the fishing family that used to reside there till about 1932. The walls are colourful due to the signs and prints. The painted cabinets also add to the charm of the house.

'The Wave' was installed in January 2016 to honour the 51 lives lost on the disastrous night of January 13th, 1916, when the village was hit by a terrifying flood. Created by renowned artist Linda Verkaaik, this masterpiece is symbolic to the loss, as well as, victory over water. Shaped like a boat, The Wave represents Noah's Ark which survived the great flood the same way Marken survived the flood 100 years back. There are plastic cartridges are in the form of handkerchiefs that represent the emergence from mourning period and finding new strength. It is indeed a beautiful installation to remember the dead.
