Koubba Almoravid - Review

One wonders why the Almohads showed such mercy on this quaint little monument and did not destroy it. Even so, a short visit to this fascinating relic from history is warranted just to see the influence of Hispano-moresque architecture.

If you are a fan of history, you will find this place quite intriguing. One of the most unique things about this sight is that it was built under the ground level.

  • The Almoravid koubba in Marrakech, Morocco. The Almoravid Koubba (or Koubba Ba'adiyin/Barudiyin) is a small monument in Marrakech, Morocco. Dating to the 12th century, it was erected by the Almoravid dynasty. At the entrance and at the top of the prayer room is the inscription: I was created for science and prayer, by the prince of the believers, descendant of the prophet, Abdallah, most glorious of all Caliphs. Pray for him when you enter the door, so that you may fulfill your highest hopes. The inscription refers to the Abbasid Caliph of Baghdad, and gives hommage to Ali ibn Yusuf, the patron of the building.

  • Nice..

  • Local people really need to learn how to treat historical relic. The ground is full of trash. It might be better to put it in the Louvre.

  • A historical monument back to the Almoravids in the old medina worth a visit

  • Under renovation.
