The Calanque De Sormiou is one of the largest and most beautiful calanques in the region, made all the more attractive by its sandy and cabana lined beach. A calanque is basically a small, restricted inlet on the coast, especially found in the Mediterranean area. Bring your snorkeling gear, for the brilliant and jewel-like waters have a lot of marine wildlife to enjoy. The beach can be deceptively quiet in the morning but gets crowded during the sudden afternoon rush of the people of Cayolle District. Trails from the beach area will take you to various high viewpoints over the beach. They can also take you to the highest point on Crete de Morgiou. Not far away is a submerged cave, the Grotte du Capelan, reachable from Sormious by walking towards Cape Redon. The rocks there can be slippery though, and the cave is frequently submerged so watch out for all the conditions before planning a visit.
