Calanque De Sormiou - Review

The Calanque De Sormiou is one of the largest and most beautiful calanques in the region, made all the more attractive by its sandy and cabana lined beach. A calanque is basically a small, restricted inlet on the coast, especially found in the Mediterranean area. Bring your snorkeling gear, for the brilliant and jewel-like waters have a lot of marine wildlife to enjoy. The beach can be deceptively quiet in the morning but gets crowded during the sudden afternoon rush of the people of Cayolle District. Trails from the beach area will take you to various high viewpoints over the beach. They can also take you to the highest point on Crete de Morgiou. Not far away is a submerged cave, the Grotte du Capelan, reachable from Sormious by walking towards Cape Redon. The rocks there can be slippery though, and the cave is frequently submerged so watch out for all the conditions before planning a visit.

  • Beautiful, amazing place once you reach the beach. The walk from the bus stop is about 1 hour or more it depends on your speed / energy. Make sure you are equipped with water, food, walking shoes, hat / cap, sunglasses. There are no shops near the beach so If u think of buying something forget it 😉. But we loved this place good to swim as the water is clear n clean. Just it's very salty water so take care of that while swimming don't let the water go in your mouth. Also there is no shower arrangement for before/after swim 😒... All in all recommend to visit specially people who love swimming 😍

  • Amazing place to spend the day swimming sun bathing and having a picnic. Would recommend find a spot along the rocks rather than on the beach with everyone else.

  • The plage is really nice, of course, but if you don’t have a car you will have to walk at least 1 hour (i am talking about hills!!) try hitchaking if you want:) There is a restaurant next to the beach where they sell sandwiches. It is 3.50 for a sandwich and around 13 euro for a lunch.

  • Worth the 45 min hike unless you make advance reservations at the restaurant. Worth it for the gorgeous bay, calm and blue Waters! Make sure to bring food and water, because no shops here!

  • Beautiful place, however very tiny and crowded place. We went for a walk and there was nobody else on the trails. Amazing views!
