The Calanque De Sormiou is one of the largest and most beautiful calanques in the region, made all the more attractive by its sandy and cabana lined beach. A calanque is basically a small, restricted inlet on the coast, especially found in the Mediterranean area. Bring your snorkeling gear, for the brilliant and jewel-like waters have a lot of marine wildlife to enjoy. The beach can be deceptively quiet in the morning but gets crowded during the sudden afternoon rush of the people of Cayolle District. Trails from the beach area will take you to various high viewpoints over the beach. They can also take you to the highest point on Crete de Morgiou. Not far away is a submerged cave, the Grotte du Capelan, reachable from Sormious by walking towards Cape Redon. The rocks there can be slippery though, and the cave is frequently submerged so watch out for all the conditions before planning a visit.

Calanque De Sormiou, Marseille Reviews - Write a Review
Beautiful place, but local authorities do nothing about the thieves that thrive from stealing things from people's cars, that they leave in the parking. I was left with a broken window and missing baggage worth thousands. And police says it happens to a few people every day, yet they do nothing about it.
We were stoped at the barrier and were told that we could not continue by car. Entrance was allowed only if we had a reservation at the restaurant. It is 30 min walking from the entrance to the beach on a dangerous road. Lots of cracked windows in the parking lot. Be careful with the burglars.
Not sure it's worth the 1 hour walk, but the beach itself it gorgeous
Beautiful beach with one of the best waters for snorkeling in the area! To be able to drive all the way to the beach, make a reservation at one of the restaurants. It will spare you the trouble of walking over the mountains in the heat, rendering more time to enjoy the waters!
Beautiful beach with crystal clear blue water. I gues in the middle of summer the place is crowded. You can arrive there only by car and the road is beautiful but a little bit hard to drive. Parking cost is about 4 euro (october 2016).
