Waihee Ridge Trail basically is a roughly five mile hike which is round a trip. It is in West Maui Forest Reserve which promises great valley views, lush scenery and some dramatic ridge-line hiking. It is a common occurrence on the windward side of all islands in Hawaii, basically you're more likely to be in for muddy conditions and wet weather. But it's really not that bad, since basically it signifies that waterfalls are going to be plentiful. The vegetation is greener as compared to lots of other hikes. The best part is that the cool conditions make for a really great hike.

The Elevation gain is roughly 1,560ft (from 1,000 – 2,560ft). Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Maui Itinerary 2 Days.

  • Started the hike at just around 7:30am. 2:30 round trip. very muddy terrain. regular running shoes could be challenging, recommend hiking shoes. the sun can get really hot the second top half of the hike as there is no shade. I recommend starting early if you plan on doing this hike. Parking can accommodate about 30 cars. Only 6 cars at 7:30 and about 20 cars at 10am. The views are amazing since you're hiking on the ridge so try to avoid days with fog to really enjoy it.

  • Beautiful views with a fun 3-mile or so hike. Just be sure to bring proper footwear as the path can get quite rocky. The only downside is that when you get to the top, there’s only a picnic table and a small deck to observe, but because you’re at cloud-level, hard to see the beautiful city. You’ll get nicer views during the middle of the hike. Just be warned: the initial walk up is quite steep so if you haven any physical disabilities, come prepared and take your time.

  • A well-maintained trail with some significant elevation change. Go early, plan on 2 hours up and 1 hour down. There's two port-a-johns in the parking lot, but there is otherwise no bathroom, no trash cans, or water sources between the parking area and the top. The top is just after the 2.0 mile marker. There is likely to be mud.

  • This is a pretty intense uphill 2.1 mile hike but well worth it for the views. My husband and I did a half marathon in the morning and then foolishly thought this hike would be easy. I highly suggest you plan on doing the hike with lots of water and sunscreen on hand as much of it has no shade.

  • Beautiful hike. Excellent bang for your buck if you’re willing to do 1500 foot elevation gain across 3 miles. Save it for a cool day as the trail is quite exposed and can get very hot
