Higher Ground Melbourne, Melbourne Reviews - Write a Review
Always packed; I don't get the point being on a waiting list and seating outside to be called. However the food is good but not stunning (pancakes seems to be a good option considering price, quantity and presentation of the dish). Juices are just average, same for coffee. Service is far from being efficient, not so friendly. The place with high ceiling and industrial architecture, lots of plants is nice.
Once upon a time, Higher Ground offered a large menu selection for dinner with perfectly cooked dishes and great service. This time round, with a large booking of 13 guests. Not only did I try to contact the venue regarding dietary requirements via phone 4 times and fail everytime, email with no reply and once finally getting through to a staff on the 3rd day of trying, notes were added to the booking but no one ever reads them on the night of the booking when we arrive. After seating and with much disappointment we are told that the menu is now condensed down to a selection of 3 or 4 dishes for entree and mains due the restaurant being so busy. I was not notified of this when making the booking.... You would hope that with a reduced menu, the kitchen staff can properly concentrate the time, effort and culinary skills for a flawless dinner. Albeit, fish main course for $32.00 is dry and over cooked, pork belly main course was unevenly proportioned for the many dishes of pork belly we ordered (some were small, some were massive and some even had no crackling on the top) and the chicken 'special' for the night was especially dry and overcooked. Ending on some positive points though! Service was A1 in the restaurant, great atmosphere and that's about it really.
A very large and airy building creates the feeling of being in church (I think it is an old church...) Not sure if this is the type of cafe I'd regularly visit, now of a business lunch style establishment. The filter was top notch though and they also serve some tapas style plates. When I first walked in the sweet smell of ricotta pancakes greeted me, making it a somewhat warmer atmosphere for breakfast.
Went here for Brunch (turned into lunch) with friends ( 4 of us). Unfortunately took around an hour to be seated and another 30ish minutes to get our food. The food is good but I think it is so overpriced for what you get. The portion sizes are pretty small (EXCEPT for the Pancake which is enough for 2 people). Its a good place to go for the typical Melbourne brunch but try and go early. The interior was also a definite highlight. Its incredible
Amazing friendly host greeted us and advised about a 20 minute wait (weekday about 1.30pm) sat outside in a nice area whilst waiting and only turned out to be waiting about 10 minutes. Inventive menu, lots to choose from, Instagram helped with choices! Helpful service and really good choice of drinks. Happy to help with dietary requirements. Lovely interior decor, lots of nice greenery. Will recommend to friends!
