The Hotel Windsor, Melbourne Reviews
I went for the Mother's Day high tea. The venue is very much a heritage building, beautiful! The champagne was not to my taste and there is a big focus on sweets. If you've got a sweet tooth you will love it because there is an endless supply! To get a cappuccino was a bit of a hassel but a very busy day so that's okay. A small selection of teas were available but nothing out of the ordinary.
The location of the Windsor is perfect, easily accessible by car but able to walk and catch trains, sightsee easily from the hotel. It has old school charm and we have stayed there many times. Unfortunately on this occasion there was an art exhibition in rooms scattered through the hotel, which made the stay very impersonal. We were also situated underneath a room with kids who were running backwards and forwards, screaming. Very noisy! The bathroom needed some maintenance and the towels definitely need replacing. Slightly disappointing considering the price paid for the room.
The Windsor..... how awful!! My Partner and l went home instead of staying the night at the hotel... $425.00 for a converted broom closet... thankfully we didn't invite anybody to meet us at the room. It's a disgrace... and we didn't even stay the night.... HOW AWFUL! I feel sorry for the good Staff.... Incompetent service at best!
We held our wedding reception in the Winston Room in early July. Wonderful venue, accommodation and high tea...could not ask for more. Thanks to staff for their help with making arrangements, and on the day. Highly recommend :-)
I have high expectations for a five star hotel, this one was average. I've definitely stayed in places with less stars that were much more comfortable. The TV/movie technology was so bad, no FTA option and so had to pay for a movie and then was unable to watch it without an overwhelming squealing noise. Fridge was old and noisy. The iron was old. Even to dial reception the phone line was fuzzy. The room was cold. Everything is very outdated and old. It might be charming for a weekend stay but definitely not on business. The one good thing I have to say is the food from room service was delicious.
