The first room smelled like old fish grease. We were moved to another room (Ms. Carrie was very nice in accommodating our request to relocate)... Then the second room had cigarette ashes on the bathroom sink/counter as well as the toilet. The tub was old and mildew stained. The couch had a glossy-sticky substance that was dried on the seat cushions. We were afraid to stay the night... clutching ourselves in fear and despair we booked another room .7 miles away in another hotel. The front desk clerk did not know how to refund my money and informed me that I had to contact the assistant manager in the morning. Help us Lord. After a six hour drive we are finally at peace in another hotel without unbearable smells, unhealthy mildew or glossy stains! This location is permanently off the list for my family.
Honestly, this is the best Extended Stay Hotel I have ever stayed in - - including other extended stay Hotel chains. The rooms are clean, in good shape, and quiet. The overall feel of the place is super pleasant. The staff: They are friendly, incredibly helpful, and professional at the same time. This is a very safe and groomed area of Memphis (on edge of Germantown), and it's just a pleasure to be staying here long term.
You could do a lot worse in Memphis. Insulting the town (not the hotel). This part of Poplar is a relatively safe area to be in after dark and ESA is in very close proximity to various restaurants and grocery stores. The staff could be better, but the rooms and overall presentation are above average. I would personally recommend staying here if you are interested in Memphis and want to feel safe.
I stayed this past Sunday night. There was body head and pubic hair stuck to the walls of the shower as if someone was shaving in it. there were new soaps and towels but the shower stall was neglected by housekeeping. the rest of the room seemed clean. 1am I heard shouting and door slamming from across the room, sounded like an angry female prostitute who was complaining about money to some man across the hall from me. I called the front desk and the argument stopped in 10 minutes. Then, i assume the same room or nearby someone started playing music loudly, the bass going through the walls. I just gave up too tired, turned on the room fan to constant and put in earplugs. I can't ever remember having such a disgusting experience staying anywhere. The one star goes to the friendly staff 🙂
One of the best extended stay Americas I have ever been too! Great pizza place within walking distance too! Rooms were very clean and seemed quite new!
