Covering a length of 5 kilometers, the Spruce Canyon Trail is one of the best light-walks around the park that is popular for bird-watching. The trail is lined with beautiful wildflowers and takes you through an undulating terrain. The view of the valley and the mountains all around along with the gorgeous canyons that are the only places in the park where you can see Petroglyphs, has made it a popular trail. The trail takes you to a side ravine and follows the path of a tributary where it ends on the mesa edge. The Thomas House ruins, mensa edge, Chapin Mesa loop road and the Petroglyph trails that merges with the canyon trail, makes a walk here ideal if you want to explore the park terrain and also get familiar with the wildlife in the region.

Highlights of the park include:

  • A number of switchbacks that you can along the way.
  • The small wooden bridge that is located at the bottom of the switchback.
  • The Fewkes Cabin that was originally built as a ranger station and is now used as a museum.

You can also see the nearby cliff dwellings from the lookout points around the trail.
