Lopé National Park is a splendid national park situated in Gabon. It is thickly shrouded with rainforests, and is home to a diverse ecosystem. It also consists of what remains of the grasslands which were formed during the last ice age. This unperturbed natural oasis is a delightful respite from the usual urban environment. The national park sprawls across a vast area of 4910 square kilometers, and is home to more than 63 species of mammals including the sun-tailed guenon, forest elephant, chimpanzee, mandrill, forest buffalo, yellow-backed duiker, black colobus, western lowland gorilla, sitatunga and leopards. This place is also the natural habitat of birds like the black guinea fowl, rosy bee-eater, Dja river warbler, great blue turaco, grey-necked rockfowl (picathartes), emerald cuckoo, chocolate-backed kingfisher and crowned hawk eagle.
