This neoclassical 19th century arch, 25 metres high, was built to commemorate and celebrate Napoleon's triumphs at first, and so called Arco delle Vittorie (Arch of Victory). Later, in 1859, it was rededicated to a unified Italy. It is an ornate creation, with lovely bas-reliefs and corinthian columns. Check the four large statues in front, each of which represents one of the rivers in the kingdom of Lombardy. The very top is the Chariot of Peace. It's thought that the arch is located on the site of an ancient Roman wall.
