About Chiesa Di San Marco, Milan
This 12th century church has been quite significant. Dedicated to the St. Mark after the defeat of Frederick Barbarossa, it was originally built in Gothic style.. When enlarged and given a lavish facelift in the 17th century it was second in side only to the Duomo. Mozart stayed here for three months in 1770. The church saw the first performance of Verdi's Requiem in commemoration of the death of novelist Alessandro Manzoni. The campanile is 14th century. Check the frescoes on the first chapel on the right and the transept. There is a 16th century tombstone at the back.
